This book arrived in the mail from Amazon this week:

The Complete Idiots Guide to Amigurumi by June Gilbank

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Amigurumi and I am so excited!! Mostly due to the extreme cuteness of the hamster book cover. :) But I'm really happy to have a whole book to read about crochet...

I have never attempted any amigurumi (pronounced as ah-mee-goo-roo-mee, a Japanese word which means "Crochet/Knit stuffed toy.") The patterns are in the round, and that has intimidated me a little. Plus Magic Ring and Invisible Decrease? yikes!

But this book explains all, and I will be churning out little crochet animals in no time!

well. maybe.

Planet June Blog The author's site! I've been subscribed to her feed for a while and she is always coming up with new and *unique* plant and animal patterns that are so incredible! Her newest project includes some scarves and stuff.

Okay, this is a picture of me doing nothing:

Nice huh?

*sighs* yeah. okay. There is no picture. I am way too lazy to take a picture, okay?!?

;)

I've been in this procrastination rut for months now, and it is starting to annoy me. I'm getting the basics done, but I have these big plans... which I am avoiding at all costs!

heh. I just need some inspiration to get me moving!

*rolls eyes*

It's Happy!

Happy Things! Lovely LaLOOFah told me my blog made her happy. It's a Happy Award!

So now I have to list the things that make me happy...

Being Vegan! It's the best, I tell you. You should be vegan, too... otherwise you will never know true joy! :D

Animals! Yep. all of them. even, on occasion, the human animal. :)

  Nature! *nods*

Books! Not just reading books, altho that's nice too. But having books, knowing I have so many different things to read, getting new books from Ed the UPS guy, books lying in stacks around the house (and on the computer and handheld) because I don't have a place to put them. These things make me happy.

  Getting a note from a friend! :)

Making Things! A crochet project or a postcard or whatever... I think about how happy the person will be when they rcv this thing that I've made. It's just an awesome feeling!

Green Growing Things! The wild ones, the domesticated ones. Trees make me happy, shrubbery, flowers, grass, my house plants, everything at the garden, everything in the forest, everything in the desert, everything in-between, they all make me happy!

Hugs from my Significant Other! :)

Diversity! A... uh... complicated thing to be happy about. *laughs*

Frogs Singing! I love all animals, of course. But hearing frogs singing strikes a special chord with me. It's the most beautiful sound. The fact that there are still frogs around... kind of amazes me. Humans will kill them off eventually, but now, I feel privileged to be able to hear them.

sighs.

I bought my Palm handheld in August 2003, for the primary purpose of reading ebooks (and the secondary purposes of playing games, listening to mp3s, typing "away" from my computer, drawing, book database, and etc!).

So: ebooks. Some ebooks I bought, from Fictionwise. Some ebooks I converted from text, from the Gutenberg Project.

Things were very happy for many years.

But then, Barnes & Noble bought the wonderful Fictionwise last year. Things at Fictionwise have steadily gone downhill from there.

I knew the prices would be raised, because that's just B&N. I was quite concerned when they closed down the Fictionwise Yahoo group. It had been quite active until then.

And then I noticed the ebooks I wanted to read were not on Fictionwise... but they were on Amazon's digital format.

I continued to be ever more annoyed by this fact. The ebooks I wanted to read piled up and piled up. And recently, I started wondering if I should buy a Kindle, Amazon's digital reading device.

Thinking very very seriously about it... even tho the Kindle is not back-lit which is a MAJOR drawback in my situation.

So today, at the day job, one of my friends highly recommends the best seller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Fictionwise (aka digital B&N) price: $14.95
(Member price: $12.71)

Amazon paperback: $5.48
Amazon Kindle: $5.21

ugh. I feel kind of sick!

Usually the Kindle price at Amazon is $10. I would not have minded paying almost 3$ more to read the book on my handheld (since I am a Fictionwise Member).

But paying 7.50$ more for the book?

at that rate, the Kindle will pay for itself in short order!

But I have a serious problem buying a propriatary format device!!! That isn't even back-lit!! And has zero secondary purposes!!!

ugh!

I'm just not sure if I can do it...

ugh! But the ebooks I could read...

National Blog Posting Month!

Yay National Blog Posting Month! Yep, I will be typing here every day in November!

Every day posts are pretty difficult, since I am not a chatty person. But it's good for me to do this challenge every once in a while.... Having this one project that I must do every day, really helps with organizing my other projects.

And my other projects... seriously need help!

and then, I saw the typewriter with wings! *smiles*

I will be inheriting three typewriters from my Grandma who died this summer. One modern typewriter and two older ones, they are all electric tho.

I think they will arrive sometime in November.
