What wonderful foods did you bring home from the grocery store?

Midweek Munchies: What RIFT is contributing for the week

A run to the grocery store, total cost 87$.

Yep, the standard Coke and ramen. Also corn chips and potato chips. Cannot live without them, you know.

I bought two kinds of granola bars in order to do a little cost comparison. A box of store brand, non-vegan but cheap, granola bars is 2$ and has ten bars. A box of organic, vegan granola bars is 2.83$ on sale and has only _four_ bars. um, jeez. (I will be making homemade vegan granola bars very very soon!)

My other cost comparison is concerning Hummus. The little container of 7 ounces of black olive hummus costs me 3$. A 15 ounce can of garbanzo beans is $1.20, and a can of olives on sale is 1$... throw those in the blender with some tahini and hey, black olive hummus for half the cost!

From the frozen section: broccoli, tater tots, Morning Star crumbles and fake steak strips. And the random frozen vege is asparagus... I've never had frozen before, we'll see how it goes.

Other random items: Hearts of Palm, expensive at 4.60$ for a can, but very very tasty. Baby Corn, cheap at 93¢, but also pretty tasty. Bragg's Liquid Aminos is a soy sauce that every one really likes, but this is the first time I've bought any!

Other staples: Cran-raspberry juice, pink lemonade mix, lemon juice. A bunch of baking soda boxes for scrubbing sinks after they sit in the fridge for a while. Some organic blueberry tarts, mmm. Some oranges for Tegan. And some Excedrin for my stupid aching rib.

And some bulk almonds that my Significant Other wanted to buy, but happened to fall into my order instead! (The nice cashier lady made him pay for my broccoli and fake steak strips, to make it even! ha.)

Since I have discovered the secret of making a nice loaf of sandwich type bread, I'm not going to buy any more store bread for my lunches at work. We'll see how dependable I am about making bread every weekend!

As I mentioned, I'm also interested in making my own hummus and granola bars. That would make my entire work food vegan and homemade. That would be cool. Well, depending on how labor intensive making granola bars is! Granola bar making is definitely more complicated than tossing stuff into a blender, like for the homemade hummus!
